Teams qualifying for the 2025 edition of the Champions League

The European Champions League in football is witnessing a change in its system starting from the next edition, the 2024-2025 season. The first change will be the participation of 36 teams, so which teams have qualified so far?

25 clubs qualify automatically through their positions in the local leagues, and each of the holders of the Champions League and the auxiliary continental competition, the European League (Europa League), is guaranteed a position in the next edition.

The principle of “rebalancing” is adopted in the event that each of the winners of the Champions League and the “Europa League” reserves its position through its ranking in the local league as well.

Dorian gets two seats through the previous season’s league performance positions within the continental competitions (Italy and Germany), while the preliminary rounds decide the remaining seven cards, 5 from the Champions Track and 2 from the League Track.

The group stage in the next edition includes:

  • The 36 teams participate in one group.
  • Each team plays against 8 opponents, two from each of the four levels, with 4 matches at home and the same away.
  • They do not face the same opponent back and forth, but in one match.
  • The teams that occupy the first eight places qualify directly to the final 16.
  • The teams between 9th and 24th places will meet in a qualifying play-off to the round of 16.
  • Clubs between 25th and 36th place are ultimately eliminated from all continental competitions.
  • In the knockout rounds, teams meet home and away, with the exception of the final of one match.
