Tamayo Perry, a renowned surfer and actor famous for hi  role in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ tragically lost his life in a shark attack.A lifeguard and surf instructor who starred in movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Blue Crush died Sunday in a suspected shark attack off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii, officials said. .

Tamayo Perry, 49, is a respected diver on the North Shore and has worked for Honolulu Ocean Conservation for eight years, according to a statement from Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi.

“It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of a survivor from the City and County of Honolulu who tragically lost his life today in a great white shark attack on the North Shore,” Blangiardi said. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends and staff at Ocean Conservation during this difficult time.”

Perry “demonstrates courage, commitment and a deep sense of duty, serving our country with strength. His courageous actions and tireless efforts to ensure the safety of residents and visitors will never be forgotten,” added Blangiardi.
The Honolulu Department of Emergency Services released a statement saying a surfer was seriously injured in a shark attack on Goat Island on June 23 shortly before 1 p.m. rural time.
911 caller reported multiple bite wounds on Morning’s body.

Lifeguards used a Jet Ski to bring his body to shore, and rescue workers found him dead there. The survivor’s name has been identified as Perry, according to the State Safety Board.

Honolulu Ocean Rescue Acting Chief Kurt Lager said at a news conference, “Tamayo Perry was a savior that everyone loved.”
Emilia Perry, her friend, said about her husband: “It is sad that his death is, he left this world doing what he loved, where he loved to do it.”

According to Surfer magazine, Perry is famous for seeing Pipeline, one of the most famous breaks in the world outside of Ehukai Beach Park on the north side of Oahu.

The Encyclopedia of Surfing says that he was best friends with singer Jack Johnson and that he was born and raised on the east side of Oahu.
Perry and his wife run a surf school on Oahu’s North Shore.

Condolences from all over the surf community arrived on Monday.


“It’s hard to believe,” wrote Marine Corps veteran Kelly Slater, “You actually lived a life you loved.” I am deeply saddened by this loss. Rest in peace.
