Germany tied with its host Ukraine 0-0 – Monday – as part of preparations for the 2024 European Football Cup, which it will host between June 14 and July 14.
The “Manschaft” faltered for the first time after two encouraging victories over France (2-0) and the Netherlands (2-1) last March, following losses to Turkey and Austria in late 2023.
It is also the first stumble for Ukraine after the two victories over Iceland (2-1) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2-1) in the playoff.
Germany will play its second warm-up match with Greece on the 7th of this month, while Ukraine will meet Poland on the same day and Moldova 4 days later.
Germany will begin its European Cup campaign against Scotland on June 14 in Munich, in the first group that includes Hungary and Switzerland, while Ukraine will play its first match with Romania on the 17th of this month, in the fifth group alongside Belgium and Slovakia.
Easy victory for England
The England national team achieved an easy victory over its guest, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 3-0, at St. James Park in Newcastle.
England played the match with a second-row squad, and Bayern Munich’s top scorer, Harry Kane, did not participate in the start (he entered in the second half), so Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins took his place.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham was completely absent after playing in the Champions League final two days ago, which resulted in his team defeating German Borussia Dortmund 2-0.
After a negative first half, the Three Lions opened the scoring with a penalty kick taken by Chelsea striker Carlton Palmer, who excelled for his club last season (60).
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kane added late goals in the 85th and 89th minutes.
The England national team is considered one of the most prominent candidates to win the title, with players such as Kane, Bellingham, Phil Foden and Declan Rice.
England will play another warm-up match against Iceland on June 7 at Wembley Stadium. The draw placed the English team in the finals in the third group, which includes the teams of Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia.
Croatia’s victory over Macedonia
The Croatian national team defeated its North Macedonia national team 3-0, and Ukraine took the lead in the tenth minute through Lovro Mayer, before the same player added the second goal in the last minute of the first half. In the 79th minute, Marko Pasalic scored the third goal for the Croatian national team.
The confrontation with North Macedonia was the first friendly match in the preparations for the European Nations, and the second friendly match will be against Portugal next Saturday.
The Croatia national team will begin its European campaign by facing its Spanish counterpart in Berlin on June 15, and will face Albania and Italy on the 24th and 29th, respectively, in the second group of the tournament.
Scotland beats Gibraltar
Ryan Christie and Che Adams scored second-half goals as Scotland beat Gibraltar 2-0 in a friendly match in Portugal, as Steve Clarke’s side continue to build momentum ahead of the 2024 European Championship.
The Scotland national team is missing Scott McTominay and Stuart Armstrong due to injuries, as well as striker Lyndon Dykes, who will miss the European Championship due to an injury he suffered in training. Clarke is awaiting Liam Cooper’s condition after the defender went off injured in the 77th minute of the match.
