Barcelona beat its guest Rayo Vallecano 3-0 on Sunday in its last home match this season, and clinched second place in the Spanish Football League, benefiting from an early goal from Robert Lewandowski and a brace from Pedri.
Barcelona raised its score to 82 points, four points ahead of third-placed Girona, which today beat its host Valencia 3-1, and Real Madrid is ahead of Barcelona by 12 points, one round before the end of the season.
Barcelona opened the scoring in the third minute when Al-Amin Jamal ran from the right side and sent the ball to Lewandowski, who received it on his chest and then shot it into the net.
Despite the opportunities that Rayo Vallecano had to equalize, Barcelona increased its lead with the second goal, as Joao Felix made a wonderful effort and shot a ball that was blocked, but Pedri followed the ball with a shot into the net, announcing Barcelona’s 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
Three minutes later, Pedri (21 years old) took advantage of a defensive gap and scored his second and third goal for the team following a pass from central defender Ronald Araujo.
Barcelona will conclude its season campaign early next week when it visits Sevilla, while Rayo Vallecano, ranked 16th, will meet at home with Athletic Bilbao.
