Luka Modric signed a new contract with Real Madrid for one year, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu until the summer of 2025, putting an end to the rumors that promoted his imminent departure.

The journalist specializing in transfer news, Fabrizio Romano, revealed on his account on the “X” platform that the Croatian star is ready to extend his contract with the Royal Club for a period of 12 months.

He explained that Luca “did not care about the financial details, as he rejected two major financial offers.”

The 38-year-old player agreed to reduce his salary as part of his new deal after playing a secondary role at the club this season.

Modric’s salary was among the highest at the Royal Club, but it will be reduced after he made it clear early in discussions with president Florentino Pérez and CEO Jose Angel Sanchez that money is not important and that he prioritizes continuing history at Madrid.

The Croatian participated in 45 matches in all competitions this season, but was used more as a substitute, as he sat in 14 of the 32 matches in the Spanish League on the bench.

Although he played a secondary role, his professionalism and competitiveness remained highly appreciated by those around the team.

Record numbers

Since moving to Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modric has won 26 trophies, the most in the club’s history alongside Nacho, surpassing Karim Benzema and Marcelo.

Modric has become the most decorated player in Madrid’s history, and he is also seeking to surpass Paco Gento’s record of 6 Champions League titles, which he won between 1955 and 1966.

Modric also became the oldest player to represent Real Madrid in the Spanish League, surpassing the previous record held by Ferenc Puskas.
